Annual Fix a Leak Workshop is March 15
Did you know? Household leaks waste nearly 900 billion gallons of water each year in the U.S. That’s equal to the annual water use of 11 million homes.
Fix a Leak Week in March is a nationwide initiative empowering everyone to repair even minor leaks before they become major problems.

Annual poster contest now accepting entries
Calling all young illustrators in our service area! Round up your art supplies and show off your creative chops in IRWD’s annual Water Awareness Poster Contest.
Students in grades K-12 are encouraged to participate by creating a poster showcasing what this year’s theme means to them: “Water Heroes: Saving Every Drop.”
Entries will be judged for originality, artistic ability, and adherence to the water efficiency theme and contest rules. Finalists will have a chance to win an iPad from the Municipal Water District of Orange County, and could be selected for a spot on Metropolitan Water District of Southern California’s annual water awareness calendar.
Contest entries are due to IRWD by Feb. 26.

Fire hydrants are an important part of your water service
There are about 20,000 IRWD-owned fire hydrants stationed throughout the District’s service area. These fire hydrants and the water distributed from them provide the reliable source of fire protection expected by our customers.
IRWD, like other water suppliers in Orange County, owns and maintains these hydrants to aid the Orange County Fire Authority and other firefighting entities in extinguishing fires that threaten the properties we serve.
The hydrants are also used by the District for water system operations and maintenance.

Traveling art show on display at IRWD headquarters
We are excited to announce the arrival of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) 2025 Traveling Art Show at IRWD, featuring the 2024 Water Awareness Poster Contest! As part of our partnership with MWD, IRWD is proud to host the showcase.
This exhibit, showcasing the winning posters from the 2025 Water Awareness Calendar, is now on display in the lobby at IRWD headquarters (15600 Sand Canyon Ave., Irvine) from January 16 through February 3.
This year’s theme “Being Water Wise Is…”, is captured through the creative ways students from Kindergarten through 12th grade express their thoughts on saving and protecting our most precious resource — water. We encourage you to take a moment to enjoy these artistic perspectives.
