Golden Parks:Huell Howser ExhibitMarch 4, 2018 Free Location:Great Park Gallery The legacy left behind by the late TV legend Huell Howser will continue to educate generations on the history and beauty of the Golden State. Tour the diverse climates and communities of California through Golden Parks: Huell Howser. This exhibition highlights the Golden Parks that Huell Howser documented throughout his career and emphasizes the importance of their role in cultivating healthy communities. In partnership with Chapman University Leatherby Libraries, home of the Huell Howser Archives. The Great Park Gallery is located in the Palm Court Arts Complex and is open Thursdays–Fridays, noon–4 p.m., and Saturdays–Sundays, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. For more information click here #ccc

Wilderness Access Day:Bommer CanyonMarch 17, 2018 njoy self-guided access in the southern portion of Irvine’s Open Space Preserve. The entire southern Open Space Preserve trail network will be open for self-guided hiking and biking from 8 am to 2 pm. This includes the single-tracks in Shady Canyon and Bommer Canyon that are reserved for guided activities only. Registration is not required for this event, though it is shown on the website. If you need driving directions, please use the online registration to receive a map and instructions for getting to Bommer. The Bommer Canyon Cattle Camp will be available for parking, but please take note that your vehicle must be removed from the Cattle Camp area by 2 pm. Garden Workshop: Succesful Raised Bed Gardens Part 2March 17, 2018 $10 Per pot/Ages 16+ Location: Food & Farm Lab Time to plant all those vegetables that love warm weather. Tomatoes, zucchini, beans and peppers thrive and produce abundantly when grown in the easy to care for environment of raised beds. Learn tips for plant selection, layout, starting from seed or using transplants, feeding, watering and keeping those veggies free of pests and disease. Following the free lecture, join us for a hands-on, take home seed planting project. Registration and $10 supply fee are required per person. Click here to register. "Let's Talk History" Happy Hour Event at The Irvine Historical SocietyMarch 18, 2018 History Happy Hour: On the Street Where You Live Please join us on Sunday, March 18 for this month's "Let's Talk History" happy hour event from 3-5pm. We had such a great discussion about the streets of Irvine last month that we've decided to continue down the same road!
We'll be talking about how many of the streets in Irvine got their names. Culver, Jeffrey, Michelson..all have stories to tell! And, as always, we welcome stories about your personal history in Irvine..Tell us something special about the street you call your own! Presentation begins at 3pm and will be held at the Irvine Historical Museum. Afterwards join us for light refreshments and a chance to meet fellow local history lovers! Children’s Water Education FestivalMarch 28, 2018 The 22nd annual Children's Water Education Festival, the largest of its kind in the United States, will be held March 28-29, 2018 at the University of California, Irvine. The award-winning event is presented by the Orange County Water District (OCWD), Disneyland Resort, National Water Research Institute and the Orange County Water District Groundwater Guardian Team. The Festival presents a unique opportunity to educate third, fourth and fifth grade students about local water issues and the environment and helps them understand how they can protect water supplies and their environment. All presentations are taught to California Science Standards. Since its inception, more than 122,000 Orange County students have experienced the Festival and all it has to offer.
