Well OPA-01 groundwater
Some customers in Orange Park Acres, North Tustin, West Irvine, Orchard Hills and Silverado Canyon recently experienced a change in their water source. In November 2024, IRWD’s Well OPA-01 in Orange returned to service after construction was completed on the well’s new, advanced water treatment system.
These customers had been receiving a blend of imported water and groundwater before and during construction of the treatment facility. Now that the new treatment system is operating, their water is coming exclusively from the well, which draws groundwater that has slightly higher mineral content than the water they had been receiving.
It’s common for customers to notice a change in the taste and hardness of their water whenever a water source is changed or modified.
The water is safe to drink
Ongoing samples collected at Well OPA-01 show that the water meets all the exacting quality standards set by the state and federal governments.
About water hardness
Water hardness refers to natural mineral deposits found in all drinking water, including bottled water. These minerals, mostly calcium and magnesium, are essential to our health.
Water hardness can sometimes leave calcium deposits on faucets and other fixtures. The deposits can easily be removed using a vinegar solution. Most dishwashers and appliances provide information in the owner’s manual for recommended settings and rinse agents to use for hard water.
