Public Safety Power Shutoffs

Keeping the water flowing

High winds, low humidity and dry vegetation pose a real and growing threat of wildfires in California, particularly in late summer and fall.

To reduce that danger, electric utilities such as Southern California Edison will sometimes call a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) and turn off power in high-risk areas to reduce the likelihood of a wildfire starting from downed power lines and related equipment.

District Election Process

After undertaking a yearlong public process to evaluate moving from an at-large election process to division-based elections, the Irvine Ranch Water District Board of Directors voted on May 13, 2019, to transition the election of the IRWD Board of Directors to division-based elections.

The November 2020 election will be the first election in which the IRWD Board of Directors will be elected through division-based elections.

The Irvine Ranch Water District Board of Directors has undertaken a yearlong public process to evaluate moving from an at-large election process to division-based elections.
