2026 03 25 Community Tour Marsh Special 41

Tour gives special glimpse into San Joaquin Marsh

We're still flying high from last week's Community Tour, where 50 IRWD customers joined us for an interactive tour of the San Joaquin Marsh.

Guests enjoyed an interpretive walk of the Marsh led by IRWD wetland ecologists, where they learned about the history of the Marsh and how its Natural Treatment System cleans urban runoff. They also experienced the wildlife, scenic views and tranquility that makes this space a hidden gem of Orange County during a guided bird walk with experts from the Sea and Sage Audubon Society.

In addition, tour participants were treated to engaging, educational presentations by IRWD water efficiency experts and water industry leaders that included Q&As with the experts, water-saving tips that could help them save money on bills and informative videos.

"This tour was 10 out of 10," said an IRWD customer in attendance. "Good speakers, good topics, enjoyable little tour to stretch our legs in between presentations, and nice lunch and gift bag! The event was very well planned, organized and a real treat."

The San Joaquin Marsh is a wildlife sanctuary encompassing more than 300 acres of coastal freshwater wetland. With 12 miles of walking trails, the Marsh has become one of Southern California's most notable nature respites. It is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Find more information, including directions and a map, at IRWD.com/marsh.

IRWD hosts many free events throughout the year, including an upcoming bird walk and landscape workshop in May and a Community Tour in June. Find more information and sign up at IRWD.com/events.
