Don’t Dump Drugs Down the Drain – National Take-Back Day is April 26

Irvine Ranch Water District would like to remind you not to dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications by flushing them down the toilet, or washing them down the sink. Instead, take them to a local Drop Off center.

Once it was common practice to flush these medications down the toilet. Your doctor or pharmacist may have directed you to do this. We now know that these substances are bad for our environment – the ground, water, and air around us.

Saturday, April 26, is National Take-Back Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you would like to know where your closest pharmaceutical drop-off center is, check out the website and enter your zip code in the box to find your location.

All CVS stores now offer drug drop-off services. You may also take your pharmaceuticals to one of the following household hazardous waste collection centers in Orange County:

  • Irvine – 6411 Oak Canyon
  • Anaheim – 1071 N. Blue Gum Street
  • Huntington Beach – 17121 Nichols Street
  • San Juan Capistrano – 32250 La Pata Avenue

These centers operate Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., closed on holidays and rainy days.
