Have you ever wondered what those three green domes are near Michelson and Harvard in Irvine? They are the giant digesters for Irvine Ranch Water District’s Biosolids and Energy Recovery Facility.
This special edition of IRWD’s Community Tour gives customers an up-close look at this environmentally friendly sewage treatment plant that is actually powered by the sewage it treats.
On the tour, you’ll also learn about the journey of water, witness the water recycling process, and see how IRWD encourages water efficiency.
The tour requires about 2 miles of walking. Please wear comfortable shoes. Closed-toe shoes are mandatory.
The day will include:
- Microscope demonstration
- Water efficiency discussion
- Walking tour of Michelson Water Recycling Plant and its Biosolids & Energy Recovery Facility
- Informative videos
- Q&A session
- Lunch
Community tours are free for IRWD customers, but registration is required.
Please note: This special-edition tour does not include the San Joaquin Marsh wildlife sanctuary.
