IRWD Wetlands Improve Water Quality

The Irvine Ranch Water District Natural Treatment System and how it helps clean up Newport Back Bay is the topic of tonight's Speak Up Newport meeting at the Newport Beach Yacht Club.

IRWD Director Peer Swan and IRWD Supervising Wetlands Biologist Ian Swift will be the featured speakers. They will discuss how a series of small wetlands, designed to treat dry weather runoff, urban runoff and small storm flows in the San Diego Creek watershed, remove contaminants before they reach the bay. The Natural Treatment System also provides riparian habitat and water quality benefits to wildlife throughout the watershed.

Questions and answers will follow the presentation. The address is 1099 Bayside Drive, Newport Beach. The reception takes place from 5:30-6 p.m. with appetizers and a cash bar. The program is 6-6:30 p.m.
