This notice is to update the Irvine Ranch Water District’s Canyon Area customers on our progress to restore normal water service to all homes affected by the recent storm.
The District’s water system serving the Canyon Area sustained significant damage from the recent storm. Williams Canyon was most severely affected because two large sections of Williams Canyon Road and the water main in the roadway were destroyed. The water system serving Silverado Canyon and Modjeska Canyon also experienced damages to a lesser extent.
The District’s staff and contractors began making emergency repairs on Thursday, December 23rd, immediately after the floodwaters subsided. Water system leaks and main breaks were isolated and customers were supplied water through bypass piping, where necessary. Two bypass water mains were required to restore water service to Williams Canyon, the first of which was completed on Friday, December 24th. The second bypass is expected to be completed by Wednesday, December 29th.
Approximately 28 customers in Williams Canyon remain without water service to their home, pending completion of the second bypass water main. These customers have access to water for drinking, sanitation purposes, and animals from a 2,000-gallon water truck and several 500-gallon water buffalos that have been staged in the canyon. The water truck and water buffalos are located approximately 900 feet west of the “Y” (bridge).
The District’s staff and local residents have worked together to provide temporary access along Williams Canyon Road. The roadway is now passable with a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The District would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation during this difficult time. We are dedicated to restore normal water service to your homes as quickly as possible.
Customers with questions can call the Irvine Ranch Water District 24 hour emergency hotline at (949) 453-5300.
