Project Overview
In October 2007, the Santiago Fire burned through IRWD's Santiago Canyon service area threatening homes, businesses and IRWD's reservoirs and booster pump stations in the region. Five booster pump stations maintain water pressure for this area and all facilities are critical to fire fighting operations. During the Santiago Fire, power outages were experienced at each pump station, requiring the installation of portable emergency generators at each site.
This project will install permanent emergency generators and concrete masonry block walls at each pump station to improve fire protection capability.
Description & Timeline
IRWD has five booster pump stations in the Santiago Canyon service area: Fleming, Shaw, Read, Williams, and Manning. During the 2007 Santiago Fire, all of these facilities were threatened and each experienced power outages. Portable generators were brought in during the fire, which insured water pressure for fire fighting operations.
IRWD is designing plans which will install permanent emergency generators at each of the pump stations in the Santiago Canyon service area. The design project will also include the installation of a 30-foot radio antenna at the Shaw pump station site as a part of the telemetry upgrades in the Santiago Canyon area. The antenna will be mounted on a wooden power pole, which will blend in with the aboveground power poles along Santiago Canyon Road.
