Common causes for high water bills include over irrigation, leaks, malfunctioning appliances such as: sprinkler systems (sprinklers stuck on or timers reset), running pool fillers, running faucets, incorrect number of residents or landscape size on file.
Your monthly bill serves as a signal to you if there is a problem by charging rates at the inefficient, excessive, and wasteful tiers. When this happens, we work with you to determine why you are using more than your allocation. Our allocation system typically provides more than enough water so you should not see charges in the inefficient, excessive, or wasteful tiers unless there is something out of the ordinary going on. This could mean a “variance” is necessary to increase your water allocation; there may be an on-going or intermittent leak that needs attention; or your landscape is being over watered. A running toilet or other fixture is among the most common causes for wasteful charges.
If you discover and fix a leak, you may be eligible for a leak adjustment on your water bill. To discuss your high water bill with a Customer Service representative, just give us a call, (949) 453-5300 or email customerservice@irwd.com.
